One day there was a hero called “Suparman”. He was walking on the street but suddenly he heard a voice “help…help….help. So he went to where the voice was and he tried to find it.

After that he decided to fly and crush the evil action in the earth. He said, “O yeah, this is my time to show! “woooosh”. He flew in the sky, looked at the earth to find someone who needed his help. But suddenly, he got an accident “JEDUK” ….wow…wow…wow… Ouch. His head hit something. Oh no actually he hit the body of an airplane which flew on the sky. His head was injured and then he said, “Oh no, sorry, Tomorrow I will be back to help you… wait me!” …ha..???

I think everyone has this feeling, do you know why?

Firstly, love is something important for heart. Love doesn’t mean loving to boyfriend or your girlfriend. Like a creation about love, there many kind of love such as love to parents, friends, family, other people, God, prophet or something you have now. Secondly, everyone can express something about love. They do everything that they love to something else. Thirdly, for your live you must have a love. Love for your life, activity, and situation. Without love your life can be empty and you will be never happy. Based on my arguments above, I dare to say that love is so important for us.

An embarrassing incident in a shop

Did you ever buy something but you didn’t bring some money? This experience is embarrassed me and make me sad at that time. On Sunday, I usually get up late but in this day my parents forced me to wake up early. They ordered me to buy milk and fish feeding. My mother gave me 115.000 rupiahs. Because my shop destination was two places so I decided to buy milk first. It costs 15.000 rupiah and the rest of money, 100.000 I put on my jacket pocket. I was busy to buy milk and I didn’t care about my money in my jacket pocket. Then I bought fish feeding but when I came there it was closed. So I went o another shop. When I came and bought it I felt that I still had my money. When I wanted to pay it, my money was gone. I felt so surprised, confuse, sad and embarrassed. So I told to the shop guard that my money was gone. I decided to go home to take my own money then I was back to the shop to pay it. I did not tell my parents about this incident because I was afraid, the money was disappeared. I really want to tell it to them but I am worry if they are angry to me. Finally, right now I never tell them about it. From my story, I want to tell you that please don’t be careless and please be careful in buying some goods. Keep your money properly.

He went around and around on same places in the earth because it is so strange to him. After that he put his UFO at a yard. He went to take a walk to some places but there was an incident. He felt surprised because there was a man who gave him a ticket for parking. He felt so dizzy because he didn’t know that there was a parking ticket for his UFO. ..??? 

I usually woke up at 8.a.m and went to the press center to check the daily schedule of briefings and press conferences, usually held by the United Nations officials or disaster mitigation team chief, Alwi Shihab.

It was challenging to visit different refugee camps to find soft stories, human interest stories. Then, I went back to press center in between to cover the press conferences of the day.

It was heart breaking when I saw these survivors fight for food and secondhand clothing, which they said were limited and inadequate. Emerging to a glaring, full noon, it was time to go back to the press center to write stories and race against time, always fearing that the internet connection would come crashing down.

And after everything was done, only then I remembered to eat. Most times, I only ate once a day because you always had to rush and it was difficult to find food. You had to travel quite far, about a 30-to-45 minute trip by car to find fresh food

In addition, An explanation text gives you a step by step explanation. The explanation sequence contains a sequenced explanation of why or how something occurs. This explanation is written in paragraphs.

The concept of an explanation text:

Purpose: To explain the processes involved in the formation and working of natural or socio cultural phenomena

Text Organization/ structure:

1. A general statement to position the reader (introductory paragraph)

2. A sequenced explanation of why or how something occurs

3. Closing or concluding statement/ paragraph (optional)

Language Features:

· Focus on generic, non-human participants

· The use of general and abstract nouns

· The use of action verbs

· The use of simple present tense

· The use of passive voice

· The use of conjunctions of time and cause

Tsunami

A general Statement:

A tsunami is a very large sea wave that is generated by a disturbance along the ocean floor. This disturbance can be an earthquake, a landslide, or a volcanic eruption. A tsunami is undetectable far out in the ocean, but once it reaches shallow water, this fast-traveling wave grows very large.

Explanation:

Tsunamis occur when a major fault under the ocean floor suddenly slips. The displaced rock pushes water above it like a giant paddle, producing powerful water waves at the ocean surface. The ocean waves spread out from the vicinity of the earthquake source and move across the ocean until they reach the coastline, where their height increases as they reach the continental shelf, the part of the Earth’s crust that slopes, or rises, from the ocean floor up to the land.

Closing:

Tsunamis wash ashore with often disastrous effects such as severe flooding, loss of lives due to drowning, and damage to property.

Petroleum products, such as gasoline, kerosene, home heating oil, residual fuel oil and lubricating oils, come from one source. Crude oil is found below the earth surface, as well as under large bodies of water, from a few hundred feet below the surface to as deep as 25.000 feet into the earth interior. Crude oil is obtained by drilling a hole through the earth, but sometimes more dry holes are drilled than those producing oil. Trace elements are also found, but these are of such minute quantities that they are disregarded.

The various petroleum products are refined from the crude oil by heating and condensing the vapors of crude oil. These products are called light oils such as gasoline, kerosene, and distillate oil.

What is Recount Text?

In our life, time goes by until some of us die. We surely go through this life passing the time. During the whole of life, we have many happened experiences that we left behind. Sometimes we remember those experiences and sometimes we forget about them. In fact, we keep some of the events in our memory. They become our unforgettable experiences. Some are nice and some are bad experiences.

What is Recount?

A recount is a type of spoken or written text that deals with past experiences. The function is to retell some events that happened in the past for certain purposes; to inform and or to entertain the listeners or readers. A recount text has a generic structure, having three components (one is optional). They are: (1) Orientation, (2) Events and (3) Reorientation ( optional).

Recounts are principally not the same as Narratives although both talk about past events. Narratives deal with problematic events which lead to a crisis or turning point which in turn finds a resolution while recounts do not have to come to a serious crisis or complication.

A. Generic Structure of Recount Text

How could I Hide my face?

Orientation:

One afternoon a month ago, I was very hungry. As I didn’t cook anything to eat lunch, I decided to go to a café about a hundred meters from my boarding house.

Events:

I changed my trousers and shirt then left for the café by myself because my roommate hadn’t come yet from the school. As soon as I got to the café, I ordered the meal with fresh vegetable soup that seemed very delicious in the hot day, and also a glass of tea. When they were served, I ate up eagerly the meal and soup and drank the tea. I was satisfied and it was the time to pay. I grabbed my trousers pocket and I was shocked. My hands didn’t feel there was any wallet there. I felt so embarrassed that I didn’t dare to see the faces of the customers. My body stayed still on the chair and began sweating.

I tried to control myself in front of the people. I collected my courage to come to the cashier to say something. Feeling uneasy, I told her that I left my wallet in the other trousers at the boarding house and promised to take it and come back soon. Some customers looked at me. I thought I must hide my face. She nodded and said it was not a matter.

Reorientation:

Finally, I ran to the house and got back with the money. I gave it to her and came out of the café. What a relief! It should not happen again to me

Last Idul Fitri

Last Idul Fitri on the first day following Romadhon, all the family woke up early to break our fast. First we prayed together and then we ate the special meal prepared by mum and our aunties.

Around 10 am some family members came to visit, and later after lunch we visited all our neighborhood friends. We each asked to be forgiven for any transgressions in the past year.

On the second and third day, we went to our grandparent’s house. We asked for their forgiveness also, and spend a relaxing time visiting other relatives and nearby tourist sites such as the beach and few temples.

note: this passage tells us about a past events of writer that is told chronologically

To make it clear, please remember the concept or recount below:

RECOUNT

Recounts tell the reader what happened. They retell a past event e.g. a visit to a farm two months ago.

Recounts begin by telling the reader who was involved, what happened, where this event tool place and when it happened. This is called the orientation.

The sequence of events is then described in some sort of order e.g. time.

There may be a reorientation at the end which summarizes the event.

Writing recount:

When writing a recounts you should:

· Focus on individual people, i.e. use the words, “I”, or “we”

· Use words which indicate when, (e.g. after lunch) and where the events took place (e.g. in the afternoon)

· Write it in the past tense

· Use action verbs e.g. helped, walked, enjoyed

Jakarta: the spreading of Lapindo hot mudflow post explosion of Pertamina’s gas pipe forced the residents of Kedungbendo and Renokenongo villages to evacuate.

The mudflow also flooded half of the Tanggulangin anggun Sejahtera housing complex in Sidoarjo. Mudflow of more than half a meter in depth flooded 66, 0448 houses in this complex.

“The residents were evacuate to Pasar baru, which was previously a shelter for 2, 605 families whose houses were flooded by mudflows”, said Syaiful Illah, a deputy regent of Sidoarjo, yesterday (16 november 2006)

From Tempo’s monitoring, the refugees came continuously by trucks, public transportations and motorcycles. They straightaway occupied the market, kiosks and stalls by spreading out mats and pillow for sleeping.

Government officials appeared to be busy preparing mass kitchens and supplying rice, instant noodles, cooking oil and other needs. “We took the food from Sidoarjo Social Service”, said Syaiful Illah. “There hasn’t been any aid provided by Lapindo”. In the mean time, the National team for mudflow relief in Sidoarjo has not been able to block mudflow in the gas pipe explosion

I was a student of elementary school when I got a feeling, love. I was 12 years old when I felt it. It made my thought got problem. I could not hold that feeling. You know why?. May be because I was child and I studied in islamic school. That feeling had not to come in my heart.

Everyday my classmates talked about us. it made me so shy. I always smiled when I met him. One day, one of my best friend told him about my feeling. I was so angry about that. He told my best friend that he just wanted to be my friend not more. My love was only for me. He didn’t love me like I loved him. He didn’t hear and answer my heart and my feeling. My best friend supported me and advised me that love must not die.

After that time, we were friend. And one day I met my best friend with him. They sat and looked so romantic. Knowing this, I was so sad. I just knew about something that made so surprise. My best friend loved him too. And after that time I felt broken heart and so sad when I knew about it.

My best friend knew about it. She said to me, “Sorry”. She told me that actually she didn’t love him. She always considered me as her best friend. She didn’t want to break our best relationship because of a boy.

Finally, I and my best friend forgot about that experience that would make our relationship broken. Then I and my first love were a friend not more

An Unlucky Prisoner

One day there was a prisoner that escaped from a jail when it was hard rain. He broke and damaged its wall. After that he ran away to the main road.

He walked away to the road slowly because it was rain. Due to hard rain, it made flood. The water volume increased and increased until it reached 2 meters. He ran fast. But he could not do because it was as tall as his chest and neck. It was so hard for him to walk. Moreover, he saw a car in front of him. It was about five meters. It was in the middle of the road. To make him safe, he walked to that car and reached its top. He didn’t know whose car it was. He sat on the roof of car. He waited and waited until it was normal again. He still sat on it the he slept because of so tired.

When he opened his eyes, he was so surprised and didn’t believe it. He was sat and slept on the roof of police’s car. It means that he would back to jail again. What a poor and unlucky prisoner.

Have you ever been chased by goat? It is an unforgettable incident for me.

This incident happened when I want to go my friend’s house. It was about four years ago. After school, I went back home and walked together with my friends. They were Titin and Rika. We walked slowly and we were happy to walk together. We enjoyed it until we arrived in a place and we didn’t aware with this place.

When I and fiends talked about our experience we laughed together. But suddenly we looked three goats in front of us. We were afraid and decided to walk back. But they followed us. Looking this condition, I and my friends run and run in hurry and fast. After a while, I looked at back but I didn’t see my friends. I was so afraid because this place is so quite. I still run until I saw my friend’s house in front of me. With strong power I run and run until I reached it. When I came to her house she and her mother laughed. They knew what just happened to me. I just smiled and of course I was so shy.

From this incident, we must be careful and aware about the condition or situation of any area. Unless, you will get problem like I have.

The Importance of Education

I personally think that education is very important for us as Indonesian teenager who will take over values, good morals, culture and knowledge. We also bring the future of Indonesia nation in the middle of world global civilization.

The condition of education in Indonesia is terrible. Why do I say that? In fact, there are many regions that have not been reached by good education. If the condition is going like this, I am sure it is difficult for Indonesia to be a prosperous country. How can it be? As we all know, a prosperous country must have a good basic education, because by having good education, people will get job easily, good life. Due to this reason, it makes the country prosperous.

To improve education system in Indonesia, the government has tried to provide education evenly to all part of Indonesian and to apply suitable education system that can make people clever and civilized. So, Indonesian can life better in this modern and sophisticated era. By the existence of education in our country, we will be able to reach the degree of knowledge or science. Besides, the Indonesian human resources will be equal with people in all around the world.

In short, it is obvious that as young Indonesian generation, education is very important.

Silent, please!

One day, I went to school’s library to read some books because the next day I should do history test. When I was there, I took three different history books and sat in the corner. While reading those books, I listened to music, my favorite songs through my mp3 player. I used earphone and I really enjoyed it.

That songs I heard was my favorite song. I really liked it. Unconsciously, I sang that song. First, I sang it quietly, but then I sang it louder and louder. My voice was so loud.

Suddenly, the librarian, Mr. Walid came to me. He stared at me with angry eyes. He hit my shoulder with some books. “Braaak”, that sound I heard loudly. I was shock about it. Then he reminded me not to sing loudly in the library. He said, “Silent, please!. This is library not music studio”. Finally, I went out from the library. I was so shy about this incident. I run to my class room quickly and I never go again there.

Nowadays, in modern era, I think internet is very important for students.

Second, they can add their friends in all countries in the world by internet. Chatting, e-mail, facebook, twitter, interpals are some examples of internet facility to have many friends. Besides, they can share, communicate, discuss and so on.

From my arguments above, as student, we should use internet facility well to get knowledge, friends, information etc.

TOEFL is the Key to Academic Success*

I personally think that TOEFL test is very important for us. There are two reasons why I say like this, it is the key to academic success.

Firstly, as a dreamer of studying in favorite high class or university in the world, we should have better English. To prove whether our English is bad or good, we should have English certificate. That is TOEFL certificate. As we all know that undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs around the world require students to demonstrate their ability to communicate in English as an entrance requirement. So, by doing TOEFL, we are sure that we will pass the entrance test. It is really true because The TOEFL test gives students the opportunity to prove that they can communicate ideas effectively by simulating university classroom and student life communication.

Secondly, English language that is used in the test reflects real-life of English language usage in university lectures, classes, and laboratories. It means that in TOEFL, we will know well some English expressions, grammar or structure, listening, readings etc. The language used in this test is the same language Professors, lecturers or teachers use when they discuss coursework or concepts with students. It is the language that students use in study groups and in everyday university situations, such as buying books at the bookstore. The reading passages are from real textbooks and course materials. If we study abroad, we will have no obstacle about English language because we have been trained in TOEFL test to communicate both either orally or in writing

In short, based on two arguments above, it seems that TOEFL is needed and it is important for us to achieve academic Success. We will pass the entrance exam and we can speak English well.

Misunderstanding*

Taking the wrong assumption? This is very abashed. Actually I was so embarrassed about this incident. I think many people will laugh when they know it.

One day my brother and I were watching television at home. suddenly there were many people brought many chairs from my neighbor's house and I saw it. At that moment I was afraid and I said to my father about this incident. My father run and said, "Thief...thief...thief.... catch them!" but suddenly he stopped. In fact the people were not thieves because one of them is my uncle. My father said to me, "Oh ... no Hen, He is your uncle. it is terrible".

After that my father chatted with my uncle. I was so embarrassed to them. I was not brave to go out. Then my father talked to me. I just laughed and was afraid. My mother laughed after listening this story and she told me, "That is funny, Henny".

When I meet my uncle, I feel shy to him because I always remember this incident. I hope my uncle forget it and I will not be shy anymore.

This experience was so funny in my life. I take the wrong assumption about someone whom I called as a thief. May be because of night, I could not see clearly. I always remember it and I do not forget it. I think this experience can be a lesson for me.

The Effect of Television*

TV is very familiar with us. Every house has it. In modern era, TV becomes more modern. Because of it, TV has positive and negative effects. Here the details:

Firstly, TV can add our knowledge. We can get various kinds of knowledge, not only knowledge but also information, news, entertainment etc. We can get knowledge not only from school and books but also from TV. Knowledge from TV is more universal that we do not get them from schools.

Secondly, TV can make bad behavior and attitudes. Recently many films are not good enough to be watched by our young generation. They will imitate the western culture about action or attitude which is in contrary with our culture, east culture. It can destroy our good behavior and attitudes.

Thirdly, TV makes us lazy. If we enjoy watching TV too much, we will forget our duty. Take for example, if you are student, you will forget to do your homework or assignment given by teacher. So, watching TV too much is bad.

Fourthly, TV destroys our health especially our eyes. It happens if you watch TV too near and too long. Watching TV too near is not good for our eyes.

Finally, TV can decrease our skill. We must choose good TV program. It is better if you watch education programme on TV.

This is a funny event about my sister and her friend. It is awful and ridiculous. She came to a Minimarket at Sidoarjo city where she likes. She chooses that minimarket and not another.

Every day some people come to that minimarket to buy something they need. Various kinds of things are sold there such as clothes, foods, drinks etc. That minimarket is near from my house. Children, young and adult often go there. Because of cheap, people like going shopping there.

One day my sister and her friend went to that minimarket. They went there after studying at school. My sister wanted to buy a "Splash Cologne" and some foods. Her friend wanted to buy a soft drink. When my sister opened the entrance door she heard the waiter calling her. Then he said, "You have to take your signature first!". She and her friend would do it but suddenly the waiter said, "Oh no, I am just kidding". Then my sister and her friend looked shy and laughed.

This incident makes my sister and her friend shy. She laughs when she remembers about that incident. She hopes that it never happens again to her. But right now she does not care about it.

Eiffel: I am in Love

If you like a love and romantic film, "Eiffel I am in Love" is the film to see. It is starred by two most popular young actor and actres namely Samuel Rizal and Sandy Aulia. It is directed by Ram Soraya. Sandy Auliya plays the leading role as Tita and Samuel rizal as Adit.

This film is about love story between young boy and girl namely Adit and Tita. The story tells about two families who live in the different countries, Indonesia and France. Adit's father who lives in Paris, France is Tita's parent friend who lives in Indonesia. Adit and his father came to Indonesia to visit tita's family and stayed there. Tita expected that she will marry with Adit and she was confusing bacause Adit is a hothead man especially to Tita. But Tita fell in love with Adit. When Tita visited Adit's house at Paris, France, Adit proposed Tita in front of Eiffel tower. It was so romantic.

This film production is good. It has beautiful scenes both in France and Indonesia. Further, this film is full of romance. So don't miss it.

Seeking Job is Difficult, isn't?*

I think many people want to get a good job which they want. But they can not realize it. They know that it is difficult to get it but the other people disagree with this argument. Some people think there are mainly three things why seeking a job is difficult.

Firstly, people do not have high education. As they do not have high education, it is difficult for them to get it. Besides, education may influence someone who seeks a job. Now in the globalization era, without having high education, people can not find a good job. Take for example in a big company. If we want to apply a job like a staff manager, we must fulfill all general requirements such as you must be good at accounting, able to operate computer, master foreign language especially English both spoken and written etc. Seeking a job is not always difficult but it depends on people themselves. If they want to try, they will be success.

Secondly, people do not have skills. If they do not have skills, they will feel difficult to find a good job. Some people think that if they want to be an employee, they must have skills. It is not only enough skill but also high education. In a company, an employee must fulfill all general requirements such as having good skill, high education and motivation, discipline etc. Without having skills, it is impossible to be an employee. For example, most people in our country, Indonesia, are jobless. It is caused by them who do not have skills and education. They say that Indonesia government does not open job vacancies. but in fact, their arguments are not true because in our country there are many job vacancies. If we can not get a job, we will be left behind in the globalization era.

Thirdly, they do not have connection or network. It is rather difficult to get a job if we do not have connection. Even though we have high education and skills, without having connection or network, we will not get it. So connection or network is very important to help us to get a job. Further, we can get it easily. For example, If we have friends and they work in a company. They may be help us to apply in that company. They also give us more information about the job. For example sometimes it needs new employee who can operate computer, master English well and good at accounting. If we fulfill those requirements, we can be an employee in that company. It is our golden chance to apply that job.

From the facts above, it is obvious that seeking a job is rather difficult if we do not have high education, skills and connection or network.
